Travel Essential Oils
When traveling, there's a few essential oils I always like to have on hand. These cover the basics of what dilemmas can often arise when out of your normal environment. Crossing the globe for leisure and service trips inevitably has taken me to third world countries and cultures where water and flushing toilets was a rarity- let alone access to an aspirin. Having some non-toxic and small essentials is a day saver.
Whether we are traveling overnight locally or to the other side of the world, my carry on has these tucked into the pocket.
My Three Basics:
On Guard (this oil is made to boost immunity and can be used as a sanitizing spray too.)
Peppermint (helps you stay awake and can be used to brush your teeth or relieve a headache.)
DigestZen (is great for stomach issues that can arise from eating unusual cuisine that your stomach isn't used to, but also helps to clear stuffy noses and congestion.)
Let's go deeper into how to use and why
On Guard: made with cinnamon and clove, I put a drop or two in my morning coffee for immune boost. It is offered in beadlets and a spray. The spray is convenient for spritzing your hands as a sanitizer and I like to spray my hands then inhale deeply (as if I was cupping water and breathing it in) so that the essence goes into my nasal cavity.
While in Scotland, one of our companions started to get a sore throat. I offered her the On Guard and by taking a drop or two directly down her throat was relieving and clears the infection.
Peppermint: This is great to smell, take a drop on the tongue to freshen breath or keep alert. (It's very potent, use with care.) With jet lag, this is great to boost your mind when you are sluggish. You can also put a few drops into your palm and rub your hands together- careful to get your fingertips. Use your fingertips to massage your scalp and alleviate headaches.
DigestZen: is a staple in my home and the reason I joined doTERRA. Take a few drops by mouth, use the beadlets or capsules. It breaks up mucus. When I travel, I take the 15ml and the capsules. The drops can be placed in the belly button, on the stomach directly or even the soles of the feet. (If you have sensitive skin, use a carrier oil or avoid direct application onto skin with any oil.) The capsules are amazing at relieving gas. As someone who is lactose intolerant and can get an upset stomach inadvertently when I don't know food ingredients, I almost always have DigestZen with me- even state side.
Optional oils; Frankincense, Clary Sage. I like to bring these for a few reasons. Frankincense is a high vibrational oil but also helps other oils work better. It helps memory and stiff joints.
I like to use Clary Sage by placing a dot on my third eye and smelling to awaken my senses. I enjoy traveling to sacred sites and find this oil assists in meditative states.
Remember, I'm just sharing my own experience of what oils I like, how I use them, and which ones I prefer to travel with. Please feel free to share your own experiences and take into consideration your own health needs before following my recommendations.
(these are DoTerra brand, even though I love and use other brands- I'm registered with doTerra, so it's easier for me to have access and availability to them.)
Consult with a medical professional for your own needs and concerns about any essential oils or applications.
